TRUCKEE, CA - A fast-moving storm swept across the Northern Sierra, dropping up to a foot of snow and snarling traffic on Interstate 80.

The storm brought chain controls to the Sierra on Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and as far east as the Nevada state line.

One heavy fall of snow all but stopped east and westbound traffic for over an hour east of Truckee late Sunday morning as motorists and truckers pulled over to put on chains.

Heavy flurries of snow fell off and on early Sunday from just west of Reno to Blue Canyon on Interstate 80.

Numerous spinouts and a few minor accidents added to the backups.

At Donner Summit the Boreal Mountain Resort parking lot was nearly half-filled with skiers and snowboarders, with the resort getting several inches of new snow.
