Four hikers and a dog rescued near Wrights Lake

Four hikers and their dog were rescued after getting lost near the Wrights Lake area on Monday.

Andrew Zavala, Juan Bonilla, Iris Cortes and Jammi Perez left Wrights Lake for a day hike to Twin Lakes at around 10 a.m. According to officials, the group lost the trail going over granite slabs, and got turned around.

By sundown, officials said the dogs feet were injured from climbing on the granite, and the group was low on water and not prepared to spend the night in the wilderness and called 911.

El Dorado County Sheriff's and a California Highway Patrol helicopter rescued the stranded hikers and their dog.

No injuries, human or dog, were reported.
