The Belated Blogoversary Botanical Interests Giveaway

The Belated Blogoversary Botanical Interests Giveaway

Botanical Interests in Colorado was one of the sponsors of our 6th Garden Bloggers Fling (San Francisco, July, 2013). A while ago (4 years of ago), I did a primer on growing vegetables for GalTime, using the info on the Botanical Interests seed packets, and got to do a give-away with their seeds. Since my 5th blogging anniversary was in August, I asked them if they'd sponsor my give-away.

Lesson from the Fling: Anything Goes!

In any activity there are rules, and there are freedoms. In a garden, the rules are largely scientific. The freedoms - well, in truth, anything goes! This was my overall impression at the opening reception of the 6th annual Garden Bloggers Fling in late June! Garden designer, Shirley Watts, has a small eclectic garden, filled with fun surprises. It is a uniquely personal space, meant to be

We're going into the winter umbrella season ... ... but I can't help looking back (and forward) to the other season, the one in my Sacramento hometown, that's known as August!

Hills Construction Offers Preview of 9,300-sf Home as Part of “Design/Build Showcase” - 9/21!

Paul Hills Design & Hills Construction is proud to present a special “Design/Build Showcase” with guided tours of a newly completed 9,300-square-foot home in Granite Bay on Saturday, September 21.  The complimentary guided tours depart every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be led by builder Paul Hills inside the unique custom home, and by landscape expert Adam McCowen outside the home so guests can view the custom backyard layout and beautifully landscaped grounds. During the “sneak peek” guided tours (before the furnishings arrive and the homeowners move in), guests will be encouraged to ask questions to learn more about what they see, the techniques and materials used, and the design-build process.  The home is located at 9235 Royal Crest Drive in Granite Bay (just off East Roseville Parkway, near Barton Road).

How to Landscape Day June 22

How to Landscape Day June 22

It's that time again! The popular annual event presented by San Juan Water District and the City of Folsom is back and better than ever.

Attendees will be treated to the latest information in water efficient and environmentally friendly landscape design from some of the region’s top landscape experts. Speakers from local garden supply stores, nurseries and University of California Integrated Pest Management program will lend their expertise in water saving plants, pest control and organic growing. Cheryl Buckwater, an expert in eco-friendly landscape design, will share her tips for creating and maintaining a water smart garden at 12:30 p.m.

Outdoor irrigation accounts for almost half of residential water use, reaching as high as 70 percent in the summer. With this year’s reduced snowpack and Folsom Lake water level projections, we all need to cut back on water use.
