In addition to the 26 museums participating in the 2017 Sacramento Museum Day on February 4 by offering free or half-priced admission, 18 local restaurants are also extending special offers and discounts to participants. The 19th Annual Sacramento Museum Day is presented by Sutter Health and Bank of America, and coordinated by the Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) and Visit Sacramento. What type of Halloween candy should kids eat?

What type of Halloween candy should kids eat?

Kids cherish their large assortment of Halloween candy and often stockpile it for months.

But parents are not nearly as enamored with Halloween candy because they know the possible ramifications: damage to the teeth and gums, and possibly a child’s overall health.

Having healthy teeth and gums goes far beyond the mouth. Poor oral hygiene can lead to periodontal disease and infection, which can impact your heart, lungs, and entire body.

Western Dental, one of the nation’s leaders in accessible, affordable, high-quality oral health care, suggests these tips below to limit the impact of eating Halloween candy.

Recipe of the week: savory slow cooker granola

Recipe of the week: savory slow cooker granola

Granola “baked” in a slow cooker comes out toasted and crisp, and keeps delicate nuts and seeds from overcooking. This recipe is made without refined sweeteners—just a little applesauce is added—for a savory rather than a sweet cereal. You can top it with honey, brown sugar or your favorite sweetener in the bowl if you like, or just enjoy it with fresh fruit.  This recipe makes about six cups.
