Yuba City police investigate elderly woman's homicide

YUBA CITY, CA - Police are investigating what they say is the homicide of an elderly woman in her home on Park Avenue in Yuba City.

Police were not saying very much about the investigation, but according to the victim's relatives and neighbors, the 95-year-old woman was found beaten to death in her bed.

A relative went to go check on the woman and discovered a smashed back bedroom window and a broken sliding glass door .

"Somebody came through the back door and busted it all up and came in after here I guess," neighbor Randy Suoja said. "From what we heard, police said she put up a little bit of a struggle."

Randy said police had found traces of blood on the sidewalk leading away from the victim's home.

"She was the kindest little lady," neighbor Glenda Suoja said. "I'm mean she's right there. My mom has lived right here for 50 years." 

Suoja said it was odd that the victim's porch light was on for the past two days.

Police officer accused of witness tampering arrested

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA - A South Lake Tahoe police officer was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly influencing witness testimonies and asking witnesses to tamper with evidence.

Court documents reveal Johnny Poland, 44, was caught up in a love triangle with a gang member's girlfriend. Documents show that he actively tried to help drug traffickers evade police and throw investigators off their path.

The woman at the center of it all, described only as C1, told investigators Poland coached her on how to cover up their affair even after a grand jury began investigating back in 2011. According to documents, Poland started his affair with the woman in 2007.

Police: Woman arrested after stealing car at friend's Auburn home

AUBURN, Calif. - A woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of stealing a car from a friend's home in Auburn.

Sergeant Michael Garlock of the Auburn Police Dept. said 30-year-old Marci Bowman and the victim were at a mutual friend's house on the 700 block of Grandview Dr. on Jan. 8. Bowman somehow got the keys to the car and took the vehicle without the owner's permission.

The car was recovered the following day in a Roseville shopping center parking lot, said Garlock.

Bowman was located and arrested Thursday and booked into the Placer County jail for auto theft and held on $25,000 bail.

Yuba City woman, son held captive for 10 days

YUBA CITY, CA - Everything clicked once Bonnie Evans saw Jermaine Roberts' mug shot.

"She was barefoot in shorts, holding a little baby," Evans recounted. "And she kept looking over her shoulder."

The Yuba City woman, 33, told police she was kidnapped while sitting in her car in the 500 block of Clay Street on New Year's Eve around 11 p.m. Her son, 3, was sleeping in the back seat of the car when Roberts', her ex-boyfriend, allegedly forced her to drive to his home, which was a few blocks away.

Police said the two were held captive at his home on the 1300 block of Oak Street in Colusa County for 10 days. The woman told police she was severely beaten each time she tried to escape. Her son was never hurt. She finally escaped Thursday once Roberts' fell asleep.

"She was scared," Evans remembered. "She was looking over her shoulder, looking to see if somebody was following her."

Auburn man allegedly shoots another, then kills self

AUBURN - An Auburn man is believed to have killed himself after shooting someone else early Sunday morning.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Bald Hill Road at 3:50 a.m. Sunday following multiple reports of shots fired. Deputies arrived, and upon entering the home, found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

During this time, a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds arrived at the ambulance entrance to Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital.
He was taken into surgery and expected to survive.

Deputies said they believed an aletercation between the two men led to the shooting. The man who shot himself was suspected to have shot the other man who was in his own car.

The Bald Hill resident, whose identity was not released, then called the sheriff's department to report that he had just shot someone. The same man also called family members before apparently shooting himself.

Spike strip stops driver after multi-county pursuit

SACRAMENTO, CA - A wild police chase spanned two counties before ending in an arrest and a slew of charges for the driver Saturday night.

California Highway Patrol officers say they attempted to pull over David Muhammad Hunter, 52, of Lodi, at around 11:40 p.m. for suspicion of drunk driving on Highway 99 near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Hunter failed to stop and led officers on a high-speed chase along eastbound Capital City Freeway and Interstate 80& for 33 miles, according to the CHP.

Officers tried to stop Hunter by deploying spike strips near El Camino Avenue, but he drove around them. The pursuit came to an end near Newcastle after CHP officers put down a second set of spike strips which incapacitated Turner's vehicle.

Man, woman attacked during sleeping bag robbery

AUBURN, CA - Auburn police say a transient attacked a man and woman after attempting to steal their sleeping bags.

Officers responded to a report of a physical fight in the area of 390 Grass Valley Highway on Dec. 25 at 7:26 p.m.

Auburn police Sgt. Dave Lawicka said Ba Shay Jorgenson punched both victims in the face during the robbery attempt, with the female victim requiring stitches for cuts on her face. She was transported to Auburn Faith Hospital by ambulance.

Jorgenson took off on foot before officers arrived and was later located by officer Stan Hamelin on F Street in the DeWitt center. He was taken without incident and booked into Placer County Jail.
