Free E-waste event

Do you have closets that won’t close, do you have an old TV, or worry about what electronic equipment, if not properly disposed, does to our communities landfills?  If you answered “YES”, bring your electronic waste over to Bethlehem Lutheran Church located at 1279 High Street on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.  Bethlehem Lutheran will be collecting E-Waste and you won’t even need to get out of your car!  When you arrive follow the drive way along side Gold Country Fair to the back of the church and we will be ready to accept your E-waste.  All Green Recycling (www.allgreenrecycling.com) will load E-waste onto their trailer right on site.  Volunteers, including some of our youth, will be ready to assist you with all your donations.  This is the first time that Bethlehem Lutheran has sponsored and community E-Waste event.  If you have ten or more items you can call and we can help schedule a pick up for your items.  Please call 530-268-1068 or 530-885-4515.

"Bethlehem Lutheran has a commitment to the community we live in and one way to show that commitment to Auburn and the surrounding area, is to host an E-Waste event.” said Tia Desplancke, BLC E-waste chair.  “Every year improperly discarded television sets, computers, and other types of electronic waste end up leaking into the ground or water.  One way we can guarantee a few less pounds of chromium, nickel and other toxic materials don’t end up in our landfills is by hosting an E-waste event.  Being part of the community means caring for people and the earth.” stressed Desplancke.

If you aren’t sure about what an E-waste item, here is a partial list:  CRT television monitors and televisions, laptops, tablets, computer towers, cell phones, flat panel televisions and monitors, old servers, printers, used print cartridges and power cords that you are no longer using.  Our church believes that we should be a part of the community and to be good stewards of our land.”  Proceeds for the E-waste event are going to our youth group which is growing and to our sister parish in Kibungo, Rwanda.  Parishioners at Bethlehem are excited to have a safe place to discard their E-waste.
