First-Ever Photography Month Sacramento to highlight 60+ events, activities & exhibits in April

Proudly led by Viewpoint Photographic Art Center – a non-profit organization located in Midtown Sacramento – in collaboration with many partners including the City of Sacramento, the community’s first-ever Photography Month Sacramento is scheduled for the entire month of April. With more than 60 events, activities and exhibits scheduled thus far (and counting!), Photography Month Sacramento is designed to celebrate the visual arts while creating an accessible and visually-exciting collective experience that brings people together. Plus, official opening and closing receptions have been announced and are planned as follows:

The thriving local museum community is proud to celebrate the first-ever Photography Month Sacramento happening in April 2018 with a variety of special exhibits, events, activities and more. Photography Month Sacramento is being led by Viewpoint Photographic Art Center – a non-profit organization located in Midtown Sacramento – in collaboration with many partners including the City of Sacramento.

While additional events and activities continue to be added, below is a sampling of a variety of exciting ways Sacramento Area Museums (SAM) members are planning to spotlight the special month-long effort:

A center for culture, creativity and vibrancy, Midtown Sacramento is an exciting 2nd Saturday Art Walk destination where local art galleries and other participating businesses collaborate to host a popular evening open house each month. Midtown guests will enjoy viewing art exhibits, participating in hands-on activities, meeting local artists, sampling food and wine, listening to live music and more.

20th Annual Sacramento Museum Day on 2/3!

With 26 museums and local destinations participating during this celebratory year, the 20th Annual Sacramento Museum Day is proudly presented by Sutter Health and takes place on Saturday, February 3, 2018. To the delight of the greater Sacramento area community, the participating local museums will open their doors to offer free or half-priced admission to the community from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Most of the museums will offer free admission whereas two destinations located in residential areas – the Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale Town – will offer half-priced admission to offset parking and traffic control costs.

The California Automobile Museum is proud to present an all new exhibit titled NorCal’s Fastest: From Grassroots to the Professional that showcases compelling stories of the instrumental individuals who have been involved in Northern California’s racing culture past and present. Debuting on Saturday, December 2, 2017, the purpose of the new exhibit is to highlight the often underrated culture of Northern California racing – done on rugged back-road dirt tracks as well as slick and fast road courses – and the colorful characters who make Northern California one of the most successful regions in the automotive racing world.

Sutter’s Fort to present “Hands on History: The Donner Party and Westward Migration”

Continuing a series of fun and interactive “Hands on History” activities offered each month, Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) and Friends of Sutter’s Fort are proud to present a special “Hands on History: The Donner Party and Westward Migration” event on Saturday, November 18, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fort visitors will be delighted to see the recently completed restoration of the historic walls, gates, blacksmith shop and current restoration of the interior walls plus have the opportunity to step back in time to learn more about the Donner Party and western migration in general.
