Celebrate in January With Sacramento Area Museums!

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long.  With 28 active partners, the Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) is proud to showcase a  variety of uplifting special events, activities and exhibits in January, including:

“California Hall of Fame” Exhibit at The California Museum -- through October 31, 2012
Honoring individuals from the Golden State who have made their own mark on history and the world, the new exhibit features the personal artifacts of the 2011 California Hall of Fame inductees, including items such as Buzz Aldrin's Apollo 11 spacesuit, Dr.

Local author Dawn Lairimore will have a book signing at Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 1256 Galleria Boulevard,  Roseville (across Galleria Drive from the mall) on Saturday, December 10 at 1:00 pm.

Lairimore’s second middle-grade novel, Ivy and the Meanstalk, a sequel to her highly-successful debut novel, Ivy’s Ever After, has just been released. Both books star Princess Ivory of Ardendale, a strong, clever girl on whose shoulders falls the task of saving her kingdom from evil forces. These books, twisted fairy tales both, follow the princess on plenty of exciting adventures, all aimed toward saving her little country of Ardendale.

Red Hawk announces November concert schedule

The area’s most popular bands perform Tuesday through Sunday at Red Hawk Casino’s Stage Bar with extended entertainment on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to
2 a.m.

Placer Theatre Ballet Auditions for The Nutcracker at this Saturday in Rocklin

Auditions for Placer Theatre Ballet's 14th production of The Nutcracker will take place on August 20 at the Conservatory of Dance Studios
4561 Pacific St, Rocklin. This is the final year that original artistic director, Pat Colgate, will direct The Nutcracker. Shea Wing will take over as artistic director in January 2012.

Dance students starting as young as age 4 are encouraged to audition to be a part of this classic holiday ballet. No dance experience necessary for the younger ages. Some dance experience required for certain parts which increases with age. For details on roles and specifics about experience, please visit www.placertheatreballet.org.

Cast members will do seven performances on Saturdays and Sundays, Nov. 26-Dec. 4.
