Special Edition Keepin' it Social: Blog U Event

Love for people, that’s the big secret behind launching and maintaining a successful blog.

Alejandro Reyes, a Sacramento Social Media guru, was at News10 Tuesday night teaching a blogging seminar.

“I firmly believe that everyone has a voice and an audience for that voice to be heard,” Alejandro said. “Blogs are a way for every person to have a voice.”

Blogging 101 was aimed at helping new bloggers and people interested in starting a blog.

Using Facebook to help find missing pets?

Using Facebook to help find missing pets?

I am not well versed in using social media networking, but I’m learning. After an eye opening class at News 10 about Blogging last night, I have a long way to go.

I’m called out on a search and discover the first step these people took was to create a facebook page for their missing pet. I used to think that was so odd, but really, now maybe it is reasonable and works? Read more

2 arrested in Yuba County hate crime; 3rd suspect sought

LINDA, CA - An African-American woman and her friend, a white man, were attacked at a mini-mart last week by three white men.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is describing the attack as racially-motivated.

The incident happened last Monday at 11 p.m. at the Full Stop Market on North Beale Road in Linda.

The three men approached the couple as they drove into the mini-mart parking lot. One suspect smashed the windshield with a tire iron, according to Yuba County sheriff spokeswoman Melanie Oakes. Another suspect opened the drivers' side door and then assaulted the woman.

During the attack, the men yelled racial slurs at the man and woman, who were not identified by Yuba County Sheriff's investigators.

A third suspect smashed the passenger's side window and punched the man through the open window. When the man got out of the car, the suspects continued to assault him.

Naggiar Pairs “Summerfest” Launch with Wine Release Party

What a difference two years have made.

Back in June of 2009, Naggiar Vineyards & Winery held the grand opening for its newly constructed tasting room and entertainment complex, which, at 3,600 square feet, is the largest facility of its type on the western slope of the Sierra.  Now, the Naggiar clan is readying the estate for a May 7 extravaganza that will take advantage of the full potential of the venue as one of California’s premiere wine and entertainment destinations.

This date marks the kickoff of Naggiar’s “Summerfest,” an every-weekend, live-music concert series running from May through October that will present the best of local foothill talent plus larger events featuring established acts from across northern California.  May 7 also will do double duty as the date Naggiar rolls out its new wine releases—seven in all—including the first public offering of inaugural vintages of four wines.  This brings the total number of wines produced at Na

Short ride on old wooden elevator is one highlight of touring historic Gladding, McBean during Feats

A month-long series of tours of the historic Gladding, McBean terra cotta factory in Lincoln offers many memorable moments, but it is the short ride on a wooden freight elevator that most thrills many tour-takers. Introduced in 1891, just 16 years after the factory opened—and 38 years after Elisha Otis invented the modern elevator—the oversized lift takes occupants slowly from the first floor to the third, the oldest part of the factory.  The volunteer operator asures riders of the safety of the equipment while everyone gasps, oohs and ahs at the wonderment of the creaky rise upward.

Claudia Renati, executive director of Lincoln Arts, says, “Most people are in awe of the elevator.  They are fascinated to learn that this is the only remaining hydraulic elevator west of the Mississippi.”  As to the lift’s slowness, Renati says, “The more people we put on it, the slower it is.
